Desert Generation

After Wilfried had been visiting Palestine and Israel in 2005 and 2006, where he realized in Bethlehem two media art projects, he was using the unique opportunity to explore the Bethlehem area of the incompleted wall separating Israeli from Palestinian territory by recording a lot video material and shooting photos, he was using afterwards for new video and photo projects. In 2007, he was invited by an Israeli organiser at the Jerusalem Artists’ House to participate in 2007 in an exhibition, entitled “The Desert Generation” focussing on 40 years of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory.

It was typical, that this initiative started an Israeli, and today on 5 June 2007 the inauguration is scheduled at The Jerusalem Artists’ House, which Wilfried had been visiting already in 2005 once. The same exhibition will be presented some days later also in Tantur, a place close to Bethlehem und Jerusalem, and later, the exhibition will move to Ha´Kibbutz Art Gallery in Tel-Aviv
and in November 2007 to Meneer De Wit Gallery in Amsterdam and in 2008 to Manchester/UK at the School of Art Gallery.
Wilfried is very glad to participate in the exhibition planned and organised by an Israeli, showing there are more Israeli who do not follow the official line of the government – looking for a peaceful co-existence with their brothers and sisters from Palestine instead of a confrontation. It is good, that there are artists and their Utopean ideas!

In December 1987, after 20 years of Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, the Palestinian territories erupted in a mass popular revolt (the First Intifada) for freedom and for internal social and political reforms. It was in this political and social climate that the idea behind IPCRI, to build bridges of communication and cooperation between Israeli and Palestinian civil society, arose.

Ekaterinburg

And today in 2005, Outvideo Festival starts in Ekaterinburg, a city situated in the Ural area in the East of Russia, including two videos Wilfried was submitting. It is the third time that Wilfrierd is participating in this festival, and he will take part after 2005 also in 2006 and 2007, afterwards the festival will be discontinued and also reactivited at a later stage.
Outvideo Festival was initiated at a time when Russian cultural activists living outside of the metropoles Moscow and St.Petersburg were looking for international connections, they were feeling to be part of the world and did not want to be separated via new nationalism. So, it is no surprise, that between 2000 and 2010 many initiatives came from Russia where Western artists liked to participate in.
