Shoah Film Collection 4

27 January 2010 – International Holocaust Commemoration Day
Wilfried is choosing this symbolical date to launch his new media art context – “Shoah Film Collection” – he wants to show that the Fascist ideology which is uprising re-animated all over the world is not bringing the righteous people to the knees.

The belief in it is genetically rooted inside, so that not even the loss of his memory caused by the coma 1998/99 was able to erase it, and in 2009, when Wilfried felt strong enough he did what he had to do following his heart – to set a sign, but differently when he initiated as a solo artist his mobile memorial “ A living Memorial” – destroyed in 1998, he was looking this time for fellow artists to accompany him.

When he released in 2009 an open call in Internet, he had just a vague idea of what kind of digital art works he would receive, so on one hand he was surprised, how many submissions arrived, but even more that most of them were videos – and only during the reviewing process the idea of a film collection slowly took shape, which should serve as an international initiative in order to encourage young artists generations to deal with context of Holocaust as an artistic topic.

Wilfried is really proud that he succeeded in creating “Shoah Film Collection” a community-based art collection which is generating as a whole a complex image consisting of a diversity of artistic concepts. Many of the included works are created to this purpose, other works were existing and included inj othe import collections like Yad Vashem.

As a video artist himself Wilfried is participating with a video he prepared especially for Shoah Film Collection after he had visited the Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin. This video is reflecting the way, how people living nowadays deal with memory of the collective trauma.

Probably time is not mature enough, yet, to present the films to a wider audience, but eventually it will be the best way to place Shoah Film Collection in the context of complementary interventions like a symposium, artists meetings, performances, discussions etc in order to activate the artists, as well as the audience. Time will show what will be the best way to do it in order to meet the objectives.

In 2018, Shoah Film Collection was transformed into “The d/i/light Memorial” – the online plaform for commemorating the victims of Holocaust and show face against Racism, Intolerance and ant-Semitism – incorporating more than 100 artists from 35 countries.
