Today, the Ionian international Digital Art Festival is aready running since 15 September 2012 and during all the day the 8 programs of CologneOFF VII – Art & the City are being screened starting at 10 o’clock in the morning. Unusual for a festival, but even more for a festival on an holiday island. Wilfried is making indeed, this way, his virtual holidays on Lefkas an island at the Greek Ionian coast. It is really ambitious to start this year the first film festival during the economical crisis in Greece, but if people do not take risks they will also not succeed. When Wilfried was asked to prepare a guest screening program he had not been aware, that in the end about 10 hours, a whole day, could be the result, but the reaction of the local people is enthusiastic, the summer is nearly over, most tourists left the island and it is quite a relaxed atmosphere among the islanders, and one could feel it, they have the need for culture and now under the still warm autumn temperature it feels great to be confronted with the unusEsn, durch ual filmic works of videoart. After some irritations because these videos do not follow the routine of conventional cinema or television, they get accustomed and addicted because each video is a new surprise!
In the centre of Lefkas Town, tucked in a side street near the library, the Apollon is a lovely little cinema. Big screen, Dolby sound, stalls and balcony, plush seating and a café. Open only during the off-season period it shows many of the most recent film releases….. a lot of them in English with Greek subtitles. The performances are usually on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
