2007-2012

Budapest

In 2007, Wilfried participated for the 1st time in the festival in Budapest as a film director with his to videos “House of Tomorrow” and “Truth – Paradise Found” – for the latter he received the Prize for the Best Experimental Film. While attending the festival, he met the director of Les Inattendus Film Festival Lyon/France who had been sitting in the Jury which had awarded Wilfried’s video and while Wilfried was talking about his own videoart festival CologneOFF, he was invited to present CologneOFF at the next festival in Lyon 2008, which he was attending in 2008 together with Tamas Gabéli, the director of Busho, who invited Wilfried to present “The Best of CologneOFF” at the festival in Budapest in 2008, and today, this festival is starting. In 2007, the festival location was really a very original one, a big cinema to be abandoned later on which was connected to an huge indoor swimming pool, attracting really many young people, but this year in 2008, this unusual place was meanwhile demolished and the new festival venue was located at the cinema in downtown Budapest. Busho will be Wilfried’s partner venue also in 2010, 2011 and 2012, alsways taking place during the 1st September week when Wilfried wis launching his latest CologneOFF festival edition, so Budapest is sometimes the place for the world premiere of CologneOFF.

5th BuSho Internatinal Short Film Festival, 1-6. September 2009
Vörösmarty Cinema / DocuArt Shed

www.busho.hu

The Idea of the BuSho (Budapest Short) International Short Film Festival presented itself in the heads of some young Hungarian Filmmakers, but during the years it became clear that it was about much more. The festival was born to give the more and more thriving short film-society a scene to introduce itself in the capital, and young titans the possibility to prove their talent in an international field.

BuSho Fim Festival location

The international feedback „BuSho Vision is not a media campaign against the US President!” or „BUSHO is the evidence of the „raison d`étre” of the short film” were kind of international confirmation to the Budapest Short Film Festival, which is the biggest Hungarian festival screening solely short films; so we felt mandated to continue the work and organized the 4th BuSho in autumn of 2008.

After the end of the entry deadline it turned out that 2008 was the first year in which we couldn’t double the entries (2005- 94, 2006-171, 2007-360), but we aren’t really sad about it… The five-member pre-jury was made up of Hungarian young filmmakers. They selected from the 630 entries 90 films into the competition program and 130 works into the information screenings.

BuSho _ Festival location interior

The festival is free for the public right from the start, accomodation and full board are provided for the international professional scientists and filmmakers and for the staff taking part in the organization. The decision of the international jury is justified by the further success of the prized films on international festivals. We have screenings on 12 universities involving the National Student Jury, we organized an animation workshop this year for the second time, with the helping hands of the professors of the University of Arts and Crafts. We emphasise the accompanying outings, too, with international concerts, feature films, exhibitions and performances.

In 2008 the 5-member international jury has given the Gold BuSho to the film entitled Traumatology, directed by Daniel Sanchez Arévalo. This year’s (as last year’s) Silver Busho was given to a Hungarian work, e.g. Original Lager of Balázs Simonyi. The Bronce BuSho prize went to Stephan Stuckert for his film entitled Medium rare.

Best Experimental Video 2007
Wilfried Agricola de Cologne – Truth-Paradise Found, 2004, 3:00
The video tells the story of the human desire to be as close to truth as possible. But who ever will succeed while living a life dominated by the fast running time and endless searching?
If there is any paradise, then monks or people really resting within themselves find a paradise close to truth close to GOD. But it is only truth people are believing in. Is there absolute truth?
The video consists of three sections, a spiritual and a physical section and the acting level, the artist who is filming the scene, an intruder who become witness of a ritual of truth.
This basic video was filmed in 2003 at the Rila Monastery, the spiritual centre of Bulgaria.

Wilfried Agricola de Cologne – House of Tomorrow, 2005, 3:40
The house of tomorrow is the house of one’s identity, it does not need to be a concrete house or building, but represents a secure and protected place where people can stand for what they are and represent, a human being. And this human may have many identities in different fields, the sexual identity represents only one among many others.
